Fort Wayne Community Schools - Summer Programs

This summer, Fort Wayne Community Schools, in partnership with area organizations, is excited to offer students the opportunity to participate in summer programming. Programming has been designed to address both educational and recreational needs. 

Some programs have a targeted student base and those students will be contacted directly regarding participation. Other programs are open to all students.

Below is a list of programs, descriptions and locations. If your child has been identified for a specific program, you will receive direct communication with details and instructions on registering for the program. 



Summer Programs

FWCS Programs

Middle School Summer Programs @ FACE

Who:  All FWCS middle school students

When: First three weeks of June

Where: FWCS’ Family and Community Engagement Center 

What: FREE classes

    • Star Sitter: All-day class includes CPR, Child Development, Shaken Baby, Safe Sleep, How to run a business, first aid, and medical. After you complete the class, you will be a certified Star Sitter
    • Star Sitter 2.0: New offering only for students who have already taken Star Sitter. Half-day class includes pediatric first aid and tools to increase interaction with the children you are babysitting.
    • Amazing Chef: Students will learn a new recipe and how to have fun in the kitchen with this class taught by Parkview dieticians. Kitchen safety and food safety are part of this program.
    • Beginning Yoga with Mindfulness: This is a new half-day program. Students will learn beginning yoga techniques and receive a yoga mat.

Jump Start (Open to pre-determined students)

Who: K-8 students who have been identified for participation. You will be contacted by your school


    9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. 

    Session 1: June 7-25

    Session 2: July 6-23

Where: Blackhawk and Memorial Park middle schools     

What: Students will spend their day participating in academic and recreational activities led by FWCS teachers

More Information: If your student qualifies for the Jump Start program, you will be able to register in the MyFWCS Parent Portal


Special Education - Extended School Year (ESY) (Open to pre-determined students)

Who: Special Education students (participation based on IEP case decision)

When: July 6-22, 8 a.m.-Noon

Where: Harris Elementary School

Camp Invention – High Ability Camp – Incoming grades K-5 (Open to high ability students)

Who: Students identified as part of the High Ability program

When & Where:

             Session 1: June 14-18,  7:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m., St. Joseph Elementary School

    Session 2: June 21-25, 7:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m., Indian Village Elementary School

What: Free STEM/STEAM program engaging High Ability students in both learning and fun

Partner Programs

Kindergarten Countdown (Incoming kindergarten students enrolled at the schools below)

Who: Any incoming kindergarten student enrolled in the schools listed

When: July 6-30, 8 a.m.-Noon

Where: Abbett, Bloomingdale, Haley, Indian Village, Maplewood, Waynedale (housed at Maplewood) 

What: This program is for students enrolled at the above schools without prior school experience to prepare them for the 2021-22 school year.

SPARK: Summer Reading Program (Open to all FWCS Students)

Who: Any FWCS Student

When & Where: The Allen County Public Library is hosting the SPARK Summer Reading program and we’re excited to partner with this amazing organization. Starting June 1, students at all FWCS schools will compete within their feeder patterns for prizes and bragging rights of Top Reader.

Boys and Girls Club Summer Program (Limited openings at each location)

Who: Students enrolled in the Boys and Girls Club

Where & When:

Session 1: June 7-July 2

    • Brookmill, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. 
    • South Wayne Elementary, 9 a.m.-Noon 

Session 2: July 6-30
