Fort Wayne Community Schools Graduation Pathways

The Indiana Graduation Pathways allow students to individualize their graduation requirements to align with their postsecondary goals. Students no longer need to fit into the same academic mold, but rather, they can choose the options that best meet their college and career aspirations. Students can create pathways that serve their educational interests and prepare them for life beyond high school.

Beginning with the Class of 2023, graduates will need to show they have mastered skills in several areas, including meeting academic requirements and being ready for college or the workforce. The Graduation Pathways checklist outlines the three areas students must show mastery to graduate.

Diplomas

Fort Wayne Community Schools has a history of working to ensure students graduate from high school with a Core 40 diploma or better. The Indiana Diploma with Core 40 is standard for graduates. Many students will also qualify for the Academic or Technical Honors designation. You can see all the requirements on the Indiana Department of Education’s website.

In addition to core classes and specialty programs at our five traditional high schools, FWCS offers a variety of programs at the FWCS Career Academy. Opening in the Fall of 2022 is Amp Lab, a unique learning environment built for students of diverse backgrounds to gain real-world experience in an innovative and agile setting.

About Career Clusters

Indiana’s economy has a skills gap. Currently, 58% of the jobs in Indiana require more than a high school diploma but less than a four-year degree. Only 47% of the Indiana workforce is trained to this level. This career cluster framework helps students discover their interests and passions by empowering them to choose the educational pathway that can lead to a future career.
