Fort Wayne Community Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, our music department answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

What is b Instrumental?
The b Instrumental program provides new or slightly used band and string instruments to Fort Wayne Community Schools students beginning in grade 7 to use through high school.
Instruments are loaned at no cost to the student or their families thanks to the efforts of the FWCS Foundation and generous gifts from area donors.
b Instrumental also provides free summer music camps and free small group and individual lessons with a teacher that specializes on the student’s musical instrument.
Why participate in music?
Playing a musical instrument has been shown to improve students success both in and out of the classroom. Research shows it benefits academic and social growth, improves memory, increases self-esteem and self-discipline, increases grades and test scores and boosts graduation rates.

Instrument Explorer Camp
FWCS b Instrumental program is offering a
FREE Summer Beginning Musical Instrument Explorer Camps for any current FWCS student in grades 5 through 8.
This is an opportunity to choose a band or orchestra
instrument and start to learn how to play that instrument.
