Memorial Park Middle School Choir
Beginning Choir- This choir is for 6th grade students only. This group works on the fundamentals of singing: breathing, projection and vowel pronunciation. This group will also learn the fundamentals of music notation: note names, basic rhythms and basic notation. These students are required to perform in two performances throughout the year; Winter Fest and Spring Concert.
Concert Choir- This choir is for 7th and 8th grade students who are want to perform in a mixed choir (boys and girls). This choir works on the fundamentals of singing and music notation along with more advanced concepts of singing. This group uses a daily theory book, “One Minute Theory” in which the fundamentals of written music are stressed. This group is required to perform three times a year: Winter Fest, ISSMA organizational contest, and Spring Concert.
Girls Ensemble – This choir is for 7th and 8th grade girls who have been in choir as 6th/7th graders and understand the fundamentals of singing and music notation. This group will perform more advanced pieces of music; madrigals, spirituals, jazz, and pieces in different languages. This group needs the permission of the director before being placed in this advanced group. These students are required to sing at the following performances: Veterans Day, Winter Fest, ISSMA Organizational contest, Spring Concert.
Advanced/Show Choir- This group is an audition only group of 7th and 8th graders. Auditions for this select group are held in the spring of the previous year. Students must have the director’s signature, and should be passing in all subject areas with a C or better. This group is required to perform not only in school related performances (Winter Fest, ISSMA, Spring Concert) but also at show choir competitions during the months of January – March. The students are required to audition for the musical, and practice after school on Wednesdays and occasional Saturdays. This group is also required to pay a fee for the year.
