FWCS Career Academy Public Safety

Whether you’re interested in crime scene investigation, firefighting or becoming an emergency first responder, our public safety program will take you out of the classroom and onto the law enforcement scene. You’ll get hands-on experience in each of our three programs, resulting in college credit, certifications and career opportunities in the public safety field.

THE ULTIMATE LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Work with professional law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMT’s.

FIRE SCIENCE

  • Learn about the physical and mental requirements and develop hands-on skills to become a firefighter
  • Classes are taught by certified firefighters from the Fort Wayne Fire Department and Allen County Volunteer Fire Departments
  • Classes are held at the Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana at Southtown Center

CRIMINAL JUSTICE/LAW ENFORCEMENT

  • Experience classroom and practical activities related to crime scene investigation, legal procedures, patrol techniques and evidence collection
  • Classes are held at the Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana at Southtown Center

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

  • Learn how to protect and save people while working toward EMT certification
  • Career opportunities include emergency first responders and ER technicians

COLLEGE CREDIT AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Transfer credits in criminal justice, fire science and public safety to Ivy Tech Community College
  • The following state certifications are available: Mandatory Firefighter, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, HazMat Awareness, HazMat Operations, Technical Rescue Awareness, CPR, Blood Borne Pathogens and EMT Basic Certification, 911 Dispatch Certification
