FWCS Career Academy Construction Trades

You’ll take a big first step toward a career in construction by completing this program. Learn the fundamentals of home building, masonry/concrete, finish carpentry, and electrical. Students who display the practical skills needed in the construction industry may qualify for a paid work experience placement as they become available.

HOME BUILDING

Students cover all phases of rough carpentry - roofing, siding, exterior doors and window installation - while building or remodeling houses. Projects include:

  • Home construction
  • Residential remodeling
  • Garage construction
  • Room additions

ELECTRICAL

Students gain experience and skills in the area of electrical. Construction Electrical projects include:

  • Installation of electrical service
  • Rough wiring
  • Light and device applications
  • Electrical remodel

MASONRY/CONCRETE AND FINISH CARPENTRY

Masonry/Concrete projects include:

Driveways, footings, foundations, slabs, and brick and block construction

Designing and estimating project costs

Finish Carpentry projects include:

Making and installing interior doors, trim and hard surface flooring

Constructing cabinets, vanities, bookshelves and desks

COLLEGE CREDIT AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Students may earn up to six dual credits through Ivy Tech Community College or Vincennes University.
  • Industry certifications are available to those who qualify.
