Utilizing our onsite licensed daycare center and relationships with Head Start and elementary schools in the area, you’ll get hands-on experience right away working with children. Whether you’re interested in childcare, education, social work or psychology, this program will be instrumental in starting your career.
EARLY EDUCATION I
What to look forward to in the first year:
Courses covering child growth and development, guidance techniques, teaching strategies and governing regulations
Volunteer experiences with the FWCS Career Academy Early Childhood Lab, special-needs and Title I preschools and Head Start programs
EARLY EDUCATION II
What to look forward to in the second year:
Internship opportunities at Montessori schools, nursery schools, Title I preschools, daycare centers and special-needs preschools for at least 10 hours each week
Four classroom hours at the Career Academy focusing on work relationships and childhood philosophy, based on the Child Development Associate, Credential (CDA) competency standards
THE ULTIMATE LEARNING EXPERIENCE: EARLY CHILDHOOD LAB
First and second year students get hands-on instruction in the Career Academy’s onsite licensed daycare center. You’ll interact with full-time staff and preschoolers to develop the children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual skills.
COLLEGE CREDIT AND CERTIFICATIONS
Transfer 12 credits in early childhood education to Ivy Tech Community College; credits can also transfer to Ball State, Indiana State, IPFW and IUPUI
Earn a CDA credential after successfully completing the Year 2 program
