Middle schools to get students moving - April 29, 2011

Portage and Shawnee middle schools will join middle schools across the country in participating in the Let's Move! Flash Workout, at 1:42 p.m. Tuesday, May 3. The event features Beyoncé in support of First Lady Michelle Obama's initiative to reduce childhood obesity. The flash workout was put together by the American Association of School Administrators, the National Middle School Association, the National School Boards Association and the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation. At 1:42 p.m. Eastern Time, middle schools across the country will participate in the flash workout with each school following the same workout routine. For the event, Beyoncé has re-written and re-recorded one of her songs and has titled it Move Your Body. She has also provided choreography in an instructional video that educators can use to help their students practice and prepare for the workout.


With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
