Fort Wayne Community Schools will have its kindergarten orientation and early registration Wednesday, April 21, in each of its elementary schools. Parents will be able to visit their child's school to learn more about FWCS' full-day kindergarten program and register their child for the 2010-11 school year. Orientation times vary; see the list below for individual schools. At the orientation/early registration, parents will learn how to help their child transition to a new program and/or new school, meet the kindergarten teachers, see classrooms, find out what immunizations are needed and learn about transportation. Children who will be 5 years old by Aug. 1 are eligible to attend kindergarten. Parents who are unsure which school their child will attend can call Student Services at 467-2120. Children who will be 4 years old by Aug. 1 may be eligible to attend pre-kindergarten. Parents can call Student Services to determine if a pre-k program is available in their attendance area. Pre-k orientation dates and times vary, and parents should contact the school their child will attend for details. For registration, parents should bring a birth certificate or other proof of the child's date of birth, poof of residence, such as a utility bill, and the child's immunization history.
