FWCS celebrates National School Lunch Week - October 14, 2009

Fort Wayne Community Schools is joining other schools across the nation in celebrating National School Lunch Week this week. This year's theme is All-Star School Lunch and is a National Basketball Association (NBA) inspired campaign. The campaign features five healthy lunch teams coached by current or former NBA/WNBA stars. Students can go online to meet the teams, download trading cards of their favorite lunch teams or create their own team and trading card. Parents are welcome to eat lunch with their students to celebrate School Lunch Week. Just call your school to order a lunch in advance (cost is $2.75 for an adult lunch). FWCS Nutrition Services serves more than 20,000 nutritious lunches each day (4,000,000 meals per year) and is proud to play an important part in the health of Fort Wayne students.
With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
