FWCS joins Twitter and Facebook - August 26, 2009

Fort Wayne Community Schools has joined the social networking crowd with district information is now being posted on Twitter and Facebook. FWCS will be using the sites to post notices on upcoming events, school and district happenings and weather delays and cancellations. Twitter users can find the district by searching for FWCS. The district's username is FtWayneCommSkls. Facebook users can find the district page by searching for Fort Wayne Community Schools. "It is important we find ways to communicate with our families and the community in ways that are convenient for them," said Krista Stockman, public information officer. "Social networking sites are a daily part of many peoples' lives. As busy as families are today, we want to make it as easy as possible for them to get information from us." FWCS first used Facebook in January to promote the School Choice Fair and found many people liked being able to connect with the school district in that way.
With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
