Students at Maplewood and Waynedale elementary schools will rock out with the country's only "Rockstar Nutritionist" Jill Jayne during a live performance of Jump with Jill, an interactive show that teaches nutrition through music and movement. The hour-long show will be performed at 9:15 and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at Maplewood Elementary, 2200 Maplewood Road. Students from both schools will attend the performances. "Music incites movement. The songs from the Jump with Jill show and the CD are an innovative way to teach kids about healthy eating and exercise messages while moving their bodies," said Jill, a registered dietitian and accomplished musician. "I appeal to parents and educators because I'm a registered dietitian; I appeal to kids because I rock." Since Jump with Jill's inception two years ago, Jill has performed her show more than 420 times for more than 42,000 kids. The show's soundtrack, "Get Me Goin'," includes rock, hip-hop and pop tunes with enticing lyrics aimed to excite children about nutrition and exercise. Both the CD and interactive show address an urgent need to connect with kids regarding overall health, exercise and nutrition. Nationwide, 17 percent of children are obese (BMI over the 95th percentile) and only one out of three meet basic fitness requirements. In addition to the appearance at Maplewood, Jill Jayne will perform at an evening family assembly from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Grand Wayne Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Free tickets may be reserved for the evening performance by calling 481-4869 by April 7. All shows are sponsored by Fort Wayne Cardiology, America On the Move in Fort Wayne and Parkview Hospital. Jump with Jill is a production of Note to Health, a company specializing in age-appropriate, interactive multimedia productions designed to teach kids about health.
