Two-hour delay for FWCS elementary schools on March 13 - March 09, 2009

All 34 Fort Wayne Community Schools elementary schools, as well as the elementary grades at Towles Intermediate School, will have a scheduled two-hour delay day Friday, March 13. The schedule for buses, classes, lunches and after-school activities will be the same as a two-hour weather delay. Buses will run two hours later for grades K-5, and school will begin at most schools at 10:40 a.m. Students arriving after 10:50 a.m. will be counted as tardy. Breakfast will not be served. At Towles, elementary students will arrive at 10 a.m. and will be tardy if they arrive after 10:10 a.m. The middle school will remain on its normal schedule, and buses will run the routes twice for Towles. Except for Bunche Early Childhood Center, morning pre-k students will attend from 10:50 a.m.-12:35 p.m., arriving at school with grades K-5. Bunche morning pre-k students attend from 10:10-11:40 a.m. All afternoon pre-k students will get on the bus one hour later than normal and attend school from 1:35-3:20 p.m. The delay provides valuable professional development time for staff. During the two hours staff members work together on ways to improve instruction and academic achievement in their buildings. This is the fifth scheduled delay day of the 2008-09 school year. The final delay day of the school year will be May 12.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
