For the first time, Fort Wayne Community Schools will hold kindergarten orientation and early registration on the same day at each elementary school. On Thursday, May 8, parents will be able to go to their child's school to learn more about FWCS' full-day kindergarten program and register their child for the 2008-09 school year. The times vary from school to school, but the date is the same. At the orientation/early registration, parents will learn how to help their child transition to a new program, meet the kindergarten teachers, see kindergarten classrooms, find out what immunizations are needed and learn about transportation. Children who will be 5 years old by Aug. 1 are eligible to attend kindergarten. Parents who are unsure which school their child will attend can call Student Services at 467-2120. For registration, parents should bring a birth certificate or other proof of the child's date of birth, poof of residence, such as a utility bill, and the child's immunization history. More information and copies of the forms will be available on the FWCS Web site, www.fortwayneschools.org.
