Middle and high school students are invited to register for the annual Allen County Youth Summit. This year's summit will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. The annual summit is designed to empower and unite young leaders. Young people aren't "just kids," they are the foundation of the next generation. Nearly 500 teens in seventh through 12th grades will learn about their community and develop leadership skills through a series of speakers and activities. Session topics include "Keeping the County Clean," "Unify our Diversity," "Getting Fit in the Fort," and "Forging Fort Wayne's Future." The keynote speaker is Savannah Walters, one of the country's top youth volunteers. The teen started the Web site Pump 'Em Up (www.pumpemup.org), which is dedicated to promoting fuel conservation. Registration for the day is $5 and includes continental breakfast. Sign up at www.acuys.org, or call 481-6826 for more information. Group rates are available.
