Fort Wayne Community Schools unveiled its district goals and a new logo at a press conference today. The goals were developed by the Board of Trustees over several months to reflect where the district is heading and the needs of the community. The board chose to focus on three goals: Achieve and Maintain Academic Excellence, Engage Parents and the Community, and Operate with Fiscal Responsibility, Integrity and Effectiveness. Under each goal are a series of objectives. These goals and objectives will be used to develop a Balanced Scorecard, an accountability tool that will be used to make sure all schools and departments are meeting the goals of the district. The Balanced Scorecard will include clear and specific targets for each school and each department as well as strategies on how to reach the targets. Once complete, Fort Wayne Community Schools will be a national leader in creating such an extensive tool for holding itself accountable at all levels. As the district unveils its new goals, it has a new, modern logo to represent the district. The new logo, created by Asher Agency, is not intended to be a literal depiction of anything specific, but instead symbolizes FWCS' position as a strong, progressive school system. That being said, the logo – with four bars in green, orange, brown and blue and the district's initials – may remind people of books, the buildings in an urban landscape or pillars of success. The logo also includes the district's new tagline, "We Are Your Schools." FWCS buildings are in every neighborhood in the city and play a crucial role in many people's lives, whether it is educating children, educating adults, serving as a meeting place for an organization or a church, or providing entertainment through athletic or musical events. "Fort Wayne Community Schools is committed to making Fort Wayne a great place to live by providing a premier education to the city's children," Superintendent Wendy Robinson said. "The new logo is designed to create a strong image to associate with the district, and the new goals will build on the successes the district has already achieved."
With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
