The dog days of summer here mean one thing – it's time for parents to get their children registered for the 2006-07 school year at Fort Wayne Community Schools. Students return to school on Monday, Aug. 21. For the second year, FWCS will hold registration on the same days and at the same times for all of its 53 schools: Friday, Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Monday, Aug. 7, from noon to 7 p.m. New students should bring a birth certificate, proof of residency in that school's boundaries (utility bill, etc.), immunization records and the name and address of their previous school. New high school students are encouraged to make an appointment to pre-register, but can be registered during general registration. Secondary students will receive class schedules and locker assignments. Some schools will also be collecting payments for team uniforms, meal accounts and gym uniforms. Tours for new students are provided at all elementary and secondary schools. Students may find goodies like yearbooks, class pictures, school supplies and T-shirts during registration also. If parents are unable to attend registration, they are encouraged to contact the school and make arrangements to come prior to the first day of school. For further information, contact your school.
