Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees approved the following personnel actions during the regularly scheduled meeting Monday, May 22 in the Grile Administrative Center: Gradlin Pruitt Principal Ward Education Center Gradlin Pruitt joined FWCS in 1991 as a substitute teacher and became a health physical education teacher at South Side High School the following year. He was named assistant principal at Northrop High School in 2000 and the following year became assistant principal at North Side High School. Since 2002, he has been assistant principal at South Side High School. His bachelor's degree is from the University of Dayton and his master's degree is from Indiana University. Melanie T. Hall Director, Public Affairs Melanie Hall joins FWCS from Lincoln Financial Group where she has been assistant vice president and director of financial communications since 2004. She joined Lincoln Financial Group in 1984, holding a variety of positions before moving to Superior Essex in 1998 where she served as vice president and director of corporate communications until 2003. Her bachelor's degree is from DePauw University and she holds a Master's of Business Administration from the University of St. Francis. Robert J. Shank Athletic Director Northrop High School Robert Shank joined FWCS in 1992 as a physical education teacher for the Northrop Area. He has been a physical education teacher at Northrop High School since 1997. His bachelor's degree is from the University of Illinois and his master's degree is from Indiana University. Craig M. Sloan Assistant Principal Jefferson Middle School Craig Sloan joins us from Churubusco High School, where he has been assistant principal since 2003. Prior to that time he had been program director at Huntington County Transition Center and then a teacher at Huntington North High School. His bachelor's degree is from Huntington College and his master's degree is from Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne. He has earned an educational specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Indiana University, Bloomington. Herbert H. Carr, Jr. Assistant Principal Kekionga Middle School Herbert Carr was named principal of Maplewood Elementary School in 2004. Prior to that time, he was assistant principal at Holland Elementary School and had been a teacher at Miami Middle School since 1996. He began his career at FWCS in 1974 as a fifth-and sixth-grade teacher at Weisser Park Elementary School and has also taught at Holland and Harris elementary schools and at Memorial Park and Lakeside middle schools. He has his Bachelor's degree from Manchester College and a Master's degree from Indiana University.
John J. Key Assistant Principal Forest Park Elementary School John Key joined FWCS in 1994 as a teacher at Forest Park Elementary School. In 1997, he moved to St. Joseph Central Elementary School where he taught until becoming an administrative intern in 2005 at Brentwood Elementary School. His bachelor's degree is from Indiana University and his master's degree is from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. Franklin Kline Assistant Principal Franke Park Elementary School Frank Kline joined FWCS as a substitute teacher in 1992 and has taught at Wood Youth Center as well as a social studies teacher at Portage Middle School. He served as an administrative intern this school year at Jefferson Middle School. Both his bachelor's and master's degrees are from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. Leslie R. McClung Assistant Principal Haley Elementary School Leslie McClung joined FWCS in 1984 and became a teacher at Washington Center Elementary School in 1985. She remained there until serving as an administrative intern at Haley Elementary School during the 2004-05 school year. The past year she has been teaching at Fairfield Elementary School. Her bachelor's degree is from the University of Indianapolis and her master's degree is from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. Robert M. Reed Assistant Principal Elmhurst High School Robert Reed joined FWCS in 1991 as a substitute teacher. The following year he taught at Memorial Park Middle School, then at Lane Middle School during the 1993-94 school year. In 1994, he joined the teaching staff at Shawnee Middle School where he remained until becoming an administrative intern this school year at Portage Middle School. His bachelor's degree is from Purdue University and his master's degree is from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. Dawn M. Starks Assistant Principal Weisser Park Elementary School Dawn Starks joined FWCS as a substitute teacher in 1991. She joined the staff at Abbett Elementary School in 1992 the following year taught at Lindley Elementary School until 1997. She has also taught at Adams Elementary and from 1998 to 2005 was a teacher at Price Elementary School. This school year she began her administrative internship at Glenwood Park Elementary School and then moved to Croninger Elementary School. Her bachelor's degree is from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and her master's degree is from the University of St. Francis. Shadwaynn M. (Mikki) White Assistant Principal Memorial Park Middle School Mikki White has been assistant principal at Fairfield Elementary School since 2005. She joined FWCS as a substitute teacher in 1993 and the following year began a six-year teaching career at Ward Elementary School. In 2000, she became a math-science teacher at Jefferson Middle School. She was a curriculum facilitator during the 2003-04 school year then came to Fairfield as an administrative intern in the fall of 2004. Both her bachelor's and master's degrees are from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. Joyce A. Paige Counselor Towles Intermediate School Joyce Paige worked as a case manager for Park Center prior to coming to FWCS in 2001. She joins the new Towles staff from her position as case manager at Shambaugh Elementary School. Her bachelor's degree is from Indiana State University, Terre Haute.
