Students at Jefferson Middle School have been collecting canned foods for their annual Thanksgiving donation to Community Harvest Food Bank for just a few days - and the response has been overwhelming. On the first day, students brought in over 3,000 cans of food! At 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, students in Shawn Smiley's class will be boxing up the canned goods - which now number about 5,000. Some of the food will be given to families the school will adopt and provide a complete Thanksgiving dinner for next week. Media are invited. The school is located at 5303 Wheelock Road. Principal Michael Morris, Mr. Smiley and his sixth-grade students - who brought in 2,000 cans themselves - will be available for interviews.
