Students prepare for ISTEP - August 29, 2005

About 24 third- through fifth-graders at Nebraska Elementary School are attending a different kind of after-school activity these days. It is called Club ISTEP+ and the students are meeting from 3:30-5:30 p.m. every school day through Sept. 9 to learn skills that will help them be successful on the upcoming ISTEP+ test. The club is for new students and those who did not attend Nebraska's Jump Start program held in August. Also included are students who may need the extra help that small group instruction provides. Teachers will be using testing data from last year and they will be focusing on literacy and math - connecting the lessons to real life experiences. This year's ISTEP+ testing dates are: Sept. 19-30; GQE exam and retest will be Sept. 20-22 and the ISTEP+ GQE retest will be March 14-16, 2006. Nebraska Elementary School is located at 1525 Boone St. Principal is Jennifer Peckham.
