FWCS Employees Pack 300 Backpacks for Students - August 08, 2017
Fort Wayne Community Schools’ employees will pack 300 backpacks Thursday, Aug. 10, with supplies, books and other items. The bags will be given to elementary school students who otherwise might not have new supplies to start the 2017-18 school year.
This is the 24th year the employees in the Grile Administrative Center, Maintenance & Operations, Media Services, Nutrition Services, South Transportation, Textbook Rental and the Warehouse have put the bags together for FWCS students. The majority of the bags and supplies are purchased with money raised throughout the year by employees who make a donation each week to participate in Casual Day Fridays. In addition, community organizations and individuals donate supplies to the project.
After the bags are packed, they will be given to elementary school case managers, who will work with principals to distribute them discreetly to students in need. Those needing assistance with school supplies should contact staff at their child’s school. FWCS also works with a number of other outside organizations to assist students in need.
