Career Academy Health Programs Moving to Parkview Facility - January 24, 2017
The health science programs currently housed at the FWCS Career Academy at Anthis will be moving to a new home beginning with the 2017-18 school year.
The Board of School Trustees on Monday, Jan. 23, approved a sublease with Parkview Health Systems to occupy space at Parkview's facility at 1919 W. Cook Road. The Parkview Education Center will also house Parkview's training operations and other health programs.
We are excited to expand our partnership with Parkview by moving our health science programs to the Parkview Education Center, Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson said. This will give our students, who are our future doctors, nurses and medical professionals, direct access to those working in those fields today, as well as access to high-tech classrooms and mock patient and surgery rooms. This expansion has been a goal of FWCS and Parkview for many years.
The Career Academy currently offers programs in:
- Introduction to Health Careers
- Introduction to Medical Assisting
- Dental Careers
- Certified Nursing Assistant
Moving these programs to a Parkview facility provides FWCS with flexibility at the Bill C. Anthis Center to move or expand programs, as well as the opportunity to pursue additional health science programs in the future.
The vision of the Parkview Education Center is to create innovative learning experiences for health science students by exposing them to others in the field, said Sue Ehinger, chief experience officer, Parkview Health. This exposure will provide a more comprehensive education and allows us to collaborate with faculty and students with a goal of keeping students engaged and excited about a career in healthcare.
