Forest Park Celebrates Cultural Arts Week - October 09, 2015

Forest Park Elementary will celebrate cultural arts throughout the week with a variety of activities. Students will learn about the traditions of various people and how they celebrate their cultures.

On Monday, students will focus on African culture. Tandy Leather will work with students at 9:30 a.m., and the Tiffany Dance Co. will work with students from 1-2:15 p.m.

On Tuesday, students will learn about the Chin culture. Tandy Leather will again work with students at 9:30 a.m., and the Fort Wayne Ballet will visit from 10:20 a.m.-2:45 p.m.

On Wednesday, students will celebrate Hispanic culture. Tandy Leather will work with students at 9:30 a.m., and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic will visit from 9:30-10:45 a.m.

On Thursday, students will learn about the Karen culture. The school welcomes Big Kess, program director for 96.9, as its Principal for a Day. The Fort Wayne Dance Collective will visit from 8:30-9:45 a.m. The IPFW Clarinet Ensemble will perform from 12:30-1 p.m.

On Thursday evening, families are invited to a showing of A Night at the Museum, from 6-8 p.m. The event will include a scavenger hunt for students.

With nearly 30,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 50 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
