Transportation Information Meetings Set for Parents - January 05, 2015
Fort Wayne Community Schools will host a series of meetings to provide parents with information regarding upcoming changes to transportation services provided. The meetings will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. according to the following schedule:
- Tuesday, Jan. 6 – North Side High School
- Wednesday, Jan. 7 – Snider High School
- Thursday, Jan. 8 – Wayne High School
- Tuesday, Jan. 13 – South Side High School
- Wednesday, Jan. 14 – Northrop High School
FWCS is in the process of reducing transportation spending by $2.5 million by the 2015-16 school year. The reduction is necessary because property tax caps, known as the Circuit Breaker, have reduced transportation funding by $9.3 million since 2009. This loss is expected to grow to $18.2 million by 2017. At the same time, expenses continue to increase.
The series of meetings are a follow-up to meetings held in December. FWCS leaders will share more details about the reductions, although specific information on routes will not be available at the meetings. The meetings are open to parents throughout the district, although parents are encouraged to attend the meeting for their feeder system when possible.
