In-School Registration Begins Friday (Wednesday, July 26, 2017)

In-school registration for the 2017-18 school year will be held Friday, July 28, and Monday, July 31, at all 48 Fort Wayne Community Schools elementary, middle and high schools. Parents can visit their child’s school from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday or from noon to 7 p.m. Monday to get ready for the new school year. In addition, new families can visit (read full article)

FWCS Buses Get Annual Check-up (Monday, July 24, 2017)

Fort Wayne Community Schools’ fleet of nearly 300 buses are getting checked from top to bottom this week to make sure they are ready for the first day of school Tuesday, Aug. 15.

Each year, the Indiana State Police inspect each school bus to make sure they are in shape to transport students. The buses will be poked and prodded with doors (read full article)


Volunteers Spruce Up FWCS Buildings During Special Day of Caring (Tuesday, July 18, 2017)

Volunteers will clean, paint and spruce up the landscaping at nine Fort Wayne Community Schools buildings Thursday, July 20, as part of a special Day of Caring sponsored by United Way of Allen County.

Employees from six local businesses will spend the day getting the schools in shape for the new school year, which begins Tuesday, Aug. 15.

FWCS Online Pre-registration Opens Today (Monday, June 19, 2017)

Fort Wayne Community Schools' convenient online pre-registration opens today, allowing current families to fill out routine registration forms online prior to in-school registration next month.

FWCS launched its parent portal, called MyFWCS, last year to streamline the registration process for parents. The portal can be accessed from (read full article)


FWCS Staff Visiting Neighborhoods Wednesday (Monday, June 19, 2017)

Fort Wayne Community Schools staff members will be covering the city Wednesday, June 21, visiting homes throughout the district from 4:30-7:30 p.m. The door-to-door campaign is designed to reach out to families during the summer to say hello and to remind them to complete online pre-registration.

FWCS Meal Program Offered Throughout Summer (Monday, June 05, 2017)

Fort Wayne Community Schools will again sponsor the Summer Food Service Program for Children (SFSPC) providing free meals to all children ages 18 and younger and to adults who are enrolled in a state-approved educational program for the mentally or physically disabled.

May is Water Safety Month; Natatorium Swim Lessons Begin Soon (Thursday, May 25, 2017)

Registration for summer swim lessons at the Helen P. Brown Natatorium, 3301 S. Calhoun St., begins Tuesday, May 30, just as Water Safety Month wraps up.

South Side Math Teacher Named FWCS Teacher of the Year (Wednesday, May 24, 2017)

Tod Croft, a math teacher at South Side High School, has been named the 2017 Fort Wayne Community Schools Teacher of the Year. Croft began his teaching career 24 years ago, working at Wayne and Northrop high schools before moving to South Side three years ago.

Continuing Education Celebrates Adult ELL Students (Tuesday, May 23, 2017)

Fort Wayne Community Schools’ Continuing Education Department will celebrate the accomplishments of nearly 350 students at Tuesday, May 30, at the English Literacy Certificate Ceremony.

FWCS Celebrates 1,800 Years of Service by 72 Retirees (Monday, May 15, 2017)

Fort Wayne Community Schools will say good-bye to 72 retirees with nearly 1,800 combined years of service at the annual retirement dinner Wednesday, May 17.

Students at Snider and Towles Host Events For Local Charities (Monday, May 08, 2017)

Students at Snider High School and Towles New Tech Middle School are hosting fund-raising events Saturday, May 13, to raise money for local charities.

Study Students Ready to Ride on Bike-to-School Day (Monday, May 08, 2017)

Students at Study Elementary will participate in Bike-to-School Day on Wednesday, May 10, with nearly 50 students expected to ride their bikes to school.

State Championship Basketball Tickets on Sale at North Side (Monday, March 20, 2017)

Tickets for the Class 4A State Boys Basketball Championship will go on sale at North Side High School Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. The North Side Legends will play the Ben Davis High School Giants at 8:15 p.m. at  Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. FWCS Offers Family Asthma Education Night (Sunday, March 19, 2017)

Fort Wayne Community Schools, in partnership with Parkview, will offer a Family Asthma Education Night to help parents and students learn more about managing this chronic condition.

Fort Wayne Community Schools and United Way of Allen County announced Wednesday that FWCS will be an On My Way Pre-K provider for the 2017-18 school year.

Board Vice President Mark GiaQuinta to Step Down; Applications Being Accepted for New Board Member (Tuesday, February 28, 2017)

Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees Vice President Mark GiaQuinta will step down from his At-Large seat effective April 1, 2017.

GiaQuinta has served on the Board for 10 years, leading the Board as President for nine of those years. His term expires at the end of 2018, leaving a vacancy on the Board that must be filled.

Career Academy Health Programs Moving to Parkview Facility (Tuesday, January 24, 2017)

The health science programs currently housed at the FWCS Career Academy at Anthis will be moving to a new home beginning with the 2017-18 school year.

FWCS Celebrates Riley Champion, Kicks Off Campaign (Wednesday, January 18, 2017)

Fort Wayne Community Schools celebrated Riley Champion Allyson Kimani, a fourth-grade student at Franke Park Elementary School, and kicked off its annual fundraiser for Riley Hospital for Children on Wednesday.

FWCS Announces 2017 Driver Education Sessions (Tuesday, January 17, 2017)

Fort Wayne Community School will offer 10 sessions of Driver Education this year, with the first beginning in February at the Bill C. Anthis Center, 1200 S. Barr St.

FWCS Hires New General Counsel as Bill Sweet Retires (Wednesday, December 21, 2016)

The Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees approved hiring David M. Amen as the district's new General Counsel. Five More FWCS Buildings Earn EPA's ENERGY STAR® Certification for Superior Energy Efficiency (Monday, December 19, 2016)

FWCS Board Holds Public Hearing on Superintendent Contract (Wednesday, December 14, 2016)

Fruit Sale this Week at FWCS Career Academy (Monday, December 05, 2016)

The 27th Annual FWCS Career Academy fruit sale at the Bill C. Anthis Center begins Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Automotive Center on the corner of Lafayette and Lewis streets (enter on Lewis Street). Fruit will be sold Thursday afternoon until 5 p.m.; 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday; and 8:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, or until all the fruit is sold.

North Side Celebrates 30 Years of Making Spirits Bright for Kids Surviving Cancer (Wednesday, November 30, 2016)

Planning Underway for Nebraska Transition (Friday, November 18, 2016)

Initial plans for the new program to be housed at the former Nebraska Elementary School were shared with members of the FWCS Board of School Trustees Friday, Nov. 18.

Families Invited to See Schools During Tuesday Tours (Monday, November 14, 2016)

FWCS Budget, Tax Rate Increase Slightly in 2017 (Tuesday, September 27, 2016)

 

The Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of School Trustees was presented a budget for 2017 on Monday that is 1.5 percent higher than the 2016 budget. The increase is due in part to the referendums approved by voters in May and in 2012 to address facility needs at 42 buildings and an increase in the number of buses being replaced.
