Burmese Delegation Visits Fort Wayne

Burmese Delegation visits Bunche

Representatives from the Burmese Delegation for Education visited four Fort Wayne Community Schools buildings on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

During their stay in the U.S., the delegation is visiting Washington, D.C., Indianapolis and other locations exploring, primarily, post-secondary education institutions. Fort Wayne was included on the trip as the city is home to a large Burmese population.

Dr. Zaw Myint, a Director General for the Myanmar Ministry of Education, additional representatives of the Ministry and representatives from their U.S. Sponsoring Organization, Burmese American Community Institute, visited Bunche Montessori Early Childhood Center, Bill C. Anthis Center (Continuing Education and the FWCS Career Academy) and New Tech Academy at Wayne High School. Following the visits, a reception was held at the FWCS Family and Community Engagement Center.

During the visit to Bunche, the delegation interacted with 4- and 5-year-old students, who were quietly working on their lessons. The visitors learned about the Montessori philosophy from Principal Tamara Mullins.

"They were really excited and interested in how we created our classrooms and put the (materials) together," Mullins said. "I hope they reach out to us again if they have questions."
