Cell Phone Pouches
Cell phones can be valuable tools, but they can also be a significant distraction during the school day. To support focused learning, meaningful peer interaction and student engagement, Fort Wayne Community Schools uses secure cell phone pouch systems in all secondary schools. While the pouch system may vary by school, the goal is the same: creating a learning environment where students can focus on what matters most.
The cell phone system uses a simple, secure pouch that stores a phone and other small electronic devices, such as smart watches and earbuds. Every student will secure their phone (turned off or in airplane mode) in a personally assigned pouch when they arrive at school. Students will maintain possession of their phones and will not use them until their pouches are opened at the end of the school day. Students are required to bring their pouch to and from school each day and are responsible for their pouch at all times.

The Process
1. Arrive at school.
2. Turn off your phone and place it in your assigned pouch.
3. Keep the pouch with you throughout the day.
4. Unlock it at dismissal – Use a designated unlocking station before leaving school.
