How to Enroll

Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS) welcomes all children. Students in FWCS are assigned to a school based on their residence which can be looked up using our address look-up tool

Once you have determined your school you may register online in the myFWCS Parent Portal during the open enrollment period.

Families may also choose a school outside their attendance area by entering the school choice lottery

STAFF LOOKUP

Online registration for the 2024-25 school year is CLOSED in the

myFWCS Parent PortAL

If you need to register for the current school year, please visit your assigned school or contact our Wendy Y Robinson Family and Community Engagement Center by phone 260-467-2120 or in person at 230 E. Douglas Ave.

Register using these easy steps

Step 1. Determine School Eligibility

ADDRESS

Determine if your address is within our district and which school your child is assigned to based on your home address using our address lookup.

AGE

  • FWCS registration for pre-K and Kindergarten students begins in March.
  • Students wishing to register for pre-K must be four years old by Aug. 1 of the upcoming school year in order to be eligible.
  • Students wishing to register for full-day Kindergarten must be five years old by Aug. 1 of the upcoming school year in order to be eligible.

Step 2. Choose Your School

FWCS has successfully offered school choice for nearly 40 years which allows students to attend any school in the district, based on space availability. While all students are automatically assigned to a school in their attendance area or a neighborhood school, you may choose to enroll your child in a magnet school or a school outside the assigned attendance area. You can explore all of our schools by selecting a school from the schools & programs tab above.

NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL

All of the schools in our district are unique and offer students an excellent education. Determine your neighborhood school using our Address Lookup tool based on our boundary maps for our elementary schoolsmiddle schools and high schools.

Learn more about your assigned school in the schools & program tab above where you can schedule a tour right from the homepage or give them a call to ask questions about the school.

If you are ready to enroll, head over to the myFWCS Parent Portal to start your registration online or contact your school or our Family & Community Engagement Center directly to start the process in person.

LOTTERY SCHOOL

If you choose to enroll your child in a magnet school or a school outside their assigned attendance area you will have to do so in our School Choice Lottery held annually.

  • Families interested in applying for a school must fill out an application and submit it by the deadline.
  • All applications received after the on-time deadline will be accepted but considered as late and be placed on the waiting list.
  • A public lottery will be held when applications exceed spots available at a specific school or grade level.
  • Transportation is not provided to students who transfer to another school, except those enrolled in a magnet school or a Program of Study.

Step 3. Gather Your Documents

You will need 4 types of documents to register for school.

STUDENT ID

To enroll a child in school, a parent or guardian must provide a birth certificate and the name and address of the last school the child attended.

PARENT ID

The parent must present a photo ID and the name of the parent must be on the child’s birth certificate.

OR

A guardian must provide custodial documentation. Please contact Family & Community Engagement Center with additional questions regarding guardianship at 260-467-2120.

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS

FWCS requires official immunization immunization records no later than the first day of school. This statement should be accompanied by the physician’s certificates or other documentations.

OR

A written statement of medical or religious objection may be filed annually. Medical objections must be signed by your physician. Forms are available at each school.

During registration, two documents showing proof of residency are required.
