Fort Wayne Community Schools provides reliable and friendly transportation to nearly 12,000 students daily. FWCS strives to safely bus students to and from school, field trips, athletic events and other activities. Students living in the No Transportation Zones (NTZ) will not be transported to and from school by bus.

The following students are eligible for transportation:

  • Elementary students residing beyond a 1-mile radius from the school they attend
  • Middle school students residing beyond a 1.5-mile radius from the school they attend
  • High school students residing beyond a 2-mile radius from the school they attend

Students attending magnet schools and high school Programs of Study will continue to be transported by bus according to district guidelines.

Introducing Student ID Badges

Starting in the 2025–26 school year, students will be required to scan their ID badges when getting on and off school buses. This system improves safety and accountability by tracking exactly who is on each bus at any time.

Safety Benefits:

  • Ensures accurate records of which students are on each bus

  • Helps in emergencies or accidents to quickly identify and locate students

  • Enhances overall student accountability during transportation

  • Prevents unauthorized bus riders and improves bus security
