(Classroom technology planning and training is independently handled by a coordinator in each Area Administrator’s office.)
What makes technology work?
LTV K-12 Educational TV
Video Production
LTV 24/54 is Fort Wayne’s K-12 Education Access Channel and is available to all Comcast and Frontier cable subscribers. Schools within and outside the FWCS district produce some of the programming for LTV. Other programs come from renown organizations, such as Better Kid Care from Penn State University, Colonial Williamsburg, the Annenberg Foundation’s Explore, various programs from NASA and other prestigious contributors.
Networks and Communications
Internet Services - Networking - Enterprise Server Support - Video - Telephony
The Networks and Communications area is responsible for the core systems of the Technology Department’s operations. Supervised by Randy Wert, the staff of Networks and Communications builds, manages, and maintains the underlying infrastructure for one of the most elaborate and sophisticated computer networking systems in the State of Indiana. Networks and Communications expertly takes advantage of Universal Service Fund (USF) monies from the Federal Government to develop an advanced, robust network, receiving more Federal USF funds than any other district in the State.
Network Support Services
Help Desk - Network Technician
Network Support Services is the group that provides first and second level technical support to all FWCS computer users: students, teachers, administrators, and support staff. This group of specialists is responsible for management of over 35,000 computers and mobile devices.
Systems Development
Technical Support - Maintain and Support - Custom Applications - Database Development - Software Systems
Fort Wayne Community Schools has an extensive list of computerized business systems. These include Student Management, Human Resources, Payroll, Accounting, and Transportation Management - to name just a few. It is the responsibility of the Systems Development staff to implement, maintain and support these systems, many of which are built in-house by the programmers here at FWCS. Our dedicated professionals help keep the district running!
User Support Services
Data Storage - Mail Room
Operations insures the data integrity of supported applications by backing-up student information, payroll, and business operations data stored on the District’s IBM AS400 computer. In addition, USS prepares, prints, and distributes reports on-demand from all supported applications, from student report cards to payroll checks and much more.
Internal and USPS mail is gathered, sorted, and processed continuously, and services are provided to assist schools with mailings by generating and applying address labels.
