Nutrition Services

Fort Wayne Community Schools is committed to helping every student succeed by providing nutritious, balanced meals at no cost. Through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the USDA’s National School Lunch Program, all FWCS students in elementary, middle and high school receive free breakfast and lunch every day, no application needed. This program supports student health, focus and readiness to learn.

Parent Participation
We encourage parent participation and welcome a visit to any of our school cafeterias. Parents can eat with their students by calling the school before 9:30 am to order and purchase a lunch.
Careers with Nutrition Services
We often have cafeteria assistant and other positions available in Nutrition Services. If feeding youth is your passion, please apply online.

A physician prescription form is required for any menu modifications; please have a doctor complete the Physician Letter for Students with a Disability and return it to your school nurse.

Nutrition & Wellness

Local School Wellness Policy (LSWP)

FWCS’s Local School Wellness Policy guides how we support student wellness through healthy school environments—nutrition education and promotion, physical activity, and other school-based wellness initiatives.


Wellness Committee Invitation

FWCS is conducting the required re-assessment (triennial assessment) and update of our Local School Wellness Policy. Families, students, staff, and community members are invited to participate and provide input.

How to participate:

  • Attend a Wellness Committee meeting:
    Date/Time: December 10th, 2025 @4:00 pm

  • Submit written feedback by Friday, January 2, 2026:

After the re-assessment is completed, FWCS will post the Triennial Assessment results and the updated Wellness Policy on this page.

Smart Snacks & Competitive Foods

Smart Snacks are federal nutrition standards for foods and beverages sold to students during the school day (outside the school meal program). These standards help ensure students have access to healthier options on campus.


What this applies to:

  • A la carte items sold during meal service
  • Vending machines and school stores
  • Fundraisers occurring during the school day (unless an allowable exemption applies)
  • Advertising/marketing on campus during the school day (must be compliant)
