Each year, FWCS spent nearly 70 percent of its budget in the classroom, compared to a state average of less than 60 percent. FWCS remains committed to maintaining a classroom spending level that is above the state average.

Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment

Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment supports FWCS’ Goal I, which is the achievement and maintenance of academic excellence. It supports the schools by providing a rigorous and relevant educational program.

 

English Language Learners (ELL) program serves students who are learning English by providing English language development support in all of our schools.

Family & Community Engagement

The Wendy Y. Robinson Family & Community Engagement Center located at 230 E. Douglas Ave provides a variety of services to ensure all FWCS students have the support they need to achieve academic success.

The Department of Human Capital Management (HCM) meets the learning needs of adults at FWCS, ensuring that our staff is prepared to educate all students to high standards.

Nutrition Services

Fort Wayne Community Schools offers breakfast and lunch at no cost to students in elementary, middle and high schools as part of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture National School Lunch Program.

 

Printing Services

Provides printing to all FWCS and central office units, as well as other school districts and non-profit organizations within Allen County.

 

Purchasing

Committed to procuring, in a timely manner, the supplies, equipment, and services required to support planned educational programs with the least possible expenditure of taxpayer dollars.

 

Security

FWCS has comprehensive safety and emergency plans for every building, and all schools regularly conduct various drills, including fire drills, severe weather drills, evacuations drills and intruder drills, to prepare students for an emergency.

 

Special Education

All students, including those with disabilities, are held to high expectations and have equitable access to educational opportunities that enrich their lives and prepare them for future success. FWCS provides special education services to qualifying preschool age children from ages 3 to 5 years old. Homebound instruction for students with injury or temporary illness is also offered through Special Education.

 

Technology

The Technology Department at FWCS is responsible for all technical infrastructure planning, construction, and implementation; phone and on-site technical support to all users; administrative application training and support; systems analysis, development, modification and support; and educational video production, programming, broadcasting, and support. 

 

Transportation

Fort Wayne Community Schools’ buses transport up to 16,000 students, twice a day, in 255 yellow buses over 145 square miles. Those 1,091 routes add up to 3.6 million miles traveled by bus each year.
