FWCS partners with the YMCA to provide childcare before and after school at many elementary schools, including half-day programs for pre-K students. The program provides snacks, homework assistance and structured activities. Please visit the FWCS Y-Care page.

Student Device insurance is available to purchase at the beginning of each semester. Enrollment Period 1 is from August 10 - August 31, 2023.

DreamBox is an adaptive, online resource our elementary schools are using to further students’ mathematical understanding. Students spend 20-25 minutes twice a week during class time working on individualized activities. In addition, students can work on DreamBox from home for additional practice. When students consistently use DreamBox, they could gain 10-12% growth in their mathematical understanding or master 1-3 mathematics standards.

We are committed to your child’s academic success and are glad to have the opportunity to provide your child with the support they need to be successful. As part of new legislation passed in the most recent assembly, SEA 217 provides guidance for testing students in grades K-2 for Dyslexia in an effort to provide earlier support for learners. Fort Wayne Community Schools’ English Language Learners (ELL) program serves students who are learning English by providing English language development support in all of our schools. About 3,800 students participate in ELL programs. FWCS also provides interpreting and translation services in many languages for our families, which represent over 70 languages, and consistently adds interpreters for additional languages. As one of the largest school districts in the state, FWCS Families in Transition Program provides services to students in grades pre-K-12th-grade who are experiencing homelessness. Through this program, students are referred to the Homeless Liaison Coordinator who helps account for the number of homeless students and ensures that homeless students receive the critical support/resources needed for academic success by eliminating barriers that would prevent homeless students from attending school.

The FWCS Clothing Bank provides clothing to thousands of students each year. FWCS students receive clothes, shoes, coats, toiletries, and other items as needed per request. The Clothing Bank operates with the support of cash donations and donations of new and gently used clothing.

FWCS Gradebook Parents can access their students’ grades, attendance records, assignments and more through the FWCS Gradebook.

We want your child to be successful, which is why we offer a variety of Academic Help Programs to our students at all of our schools. If you feel your child is in need, reach out to your child’s teacher to start the process of getting your student extra help.

One of the programs we offer is the award-winning Study Connection. Individuals are matched one-to-one with students who have been identified by their teachers as needing extra academic assistance. Pairs meet for one hour once a week during the school year. Students and tutors meet in a variety of places, including local businesses, places of higher education, churches and local elementary schools. At the end of the hour, students return to their schools for dismissal, or are dismissed by an FWCS employee if tutoring takes place in a local school.

This guide contains valuable information that students and parents need to know regarding daily life in our district, from calendars, school meals and transportation to our nationally recognized school choice program.

Secure Transcript from Parchment - Online transcript request and delivery

All students are provided medical coverage for athletics and accidents that occur during the school day and while participating in school-sponsored events and athletics. This coverage is free of charge to students and is secondary to any other medical coverage the student may have. Coverage may not cover the total cost of all claims. Parents may purchase supplementary 24-hour student accident insurance through All Risk Insurance.
