News & Announcements
Fort Wayne Community Schools welcome 54 community members into its schools to serve as guest principals for the annual Principal for a Day event.
Fort Wayne Community Schools welcome 54 community members into its schools to serve as guest principals for the annual Principal for a Day event. Guests representing local businesses, churches, service organizations, real estate agencies and community groups will visit their assigned schools the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 4.
The guest principals will visit the schools from the beginning of the school day until noon, experiencing what a principal goes through in a day. From welcoming students into a building to dealing with concerned parents to working directly with teachers to improve academic achievement, principals do it all. At noon, the principals and their guests will gather at the Wendy Y. Robinson Family & Community Engagement Center for a lunch prepared and served by FWCS Career Academy Culinary Arts students.
Each year following the event, many guest principals find ways to continue partnering with their host school. The following is a list of the schools participating and their guest principals:

Fort Wayne Community Schools will celebrate National Walk & Roll to School Day Wednesday, Oct. 4, with eight schools participating.
Fort Wayne Community Schools will celebrate National Walk & Roll to School Day Wednesday, Oct. 4, with eight schools participating.
Students and staff will gather at designated spots and walk together to school to remind the community that each day thousands of students throughout Fort Wayne walk to school – some out of necessity and some as a healthy life choice. The event also shows students who do not typically walk to school that there are safe routes to walk to school. This year, FWCS welcomes its first middle school participant – Memorial Park Middle School. Walk & Roll to School Day coincides with FWCS’ Principal for a Day, which means those walking may have a special guest participating.
The Walk to School Day events are supported by the Fort Wayne Active Transportation Coalition, which encourages making transportation safe and accessible in all forms.
The FWCS event is one of nearly 2,500 events taking place across the country under the guidance of the National Center for Safe Routes to School.
FWCS schools participating are:
· Abbett Elementary School
· Adams Elementary School
· Franke Park Elementary School
· Memorial Park Middle School
· St. Joseph Central Elementary School
· South Wayne Elementary School
· Weisser Park Elementary/Whitney Young Early Childhood Center
The FWCS Career Academy Construction Trades program will celebrate the completion of the new Sheet Metal/HVAC Lab at noon Thursday, Sept. 28.
The FWCS Career Academy Construction Trades program will celebrate the completion of the new Sheet Metal/HVAC Lab at noon Thursday, Sept. 28, at Construction Trades, 125 Murray St.
The new space gives students a better opportunity to learn about sheet metal, HVAC and furnace installations, air purification, ductwork fabrication, furnace troubleshooting and more.
Construction Trades Instructor Chris Roberts said he is excited to see the program expand again.
“This expansion allows us to serve students in Allen County with an opportunity to find a passion that leads them into a successful career,” he said.
The renovation was made possible by community sponsors who helped raise the $500,000 needed to complete the project.
“Sheet metal and HVAC work is a specialty area that we felt most needed support in our local region, and we are honored with all of the donations to make this become a reality,” Roberts said.
Students at Weisser Park Elementary School took an idea and then used project-based learning methods to create a new disc golf course at Weisser Park.
Students at Weisser Park Elementary School took an idea and then used project-based learning methods to create a new attraction for Weisser Park. The attraction is a disc golf course. Teachers and students will start the installation process Monday, Sept. 25, at Weisser Park, which is just behind Weisser Park Elementary School.
For the STEAM project, fourth graders worked with Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation. The students designed the course, revised it with the assistance of city planners and raised the money needed to complete the project by writing letters to community and business leaders. In total, $5,000 was raised, which was then matched by the Surack Family Foundation.
Students will learn how to play disc golf during PE and will be able to use the course at recess.

TESTIMONIALS
Voices of FWCS
JADA-NICOLE
Being at the FWCS Career Academy at Anthis helped me greatly because I earned college credits, and it gave me an internship at a really good preschool. It gave me a chance to
start working in my career at a young age.
KIMBERLY
FWCS is a great place to work because there are so many opportunities to learn and grow as an educator. Our staff truly love what they do!
KYRA
I am pleased with the opportunities FWCS creates for my daughter now and the seeds that are being sown for her future success. I adore the great spirit of community that exists among our school families. My daughter is learning so much and most importantly, she is excited about learning!
DEREK
I have worked my entire career in FWCS and my child attends FWCS because this is our community. As a principal, I have the opportunity to make our community better by supporting our staff, students and families. As a parent, I know my daughter receives engaging, rigorous learning experiences as she continues to thrive.
JASMINE
The Vincennes Early College Program (at North Side) along with other rigorous classes have allowed me to get an early start on my college education. By the time I graduate, I’ll have a year’s worth of college credits because of the classes I’ve been able to take. Knowing this definitely makes my goals for the future more obtainable.
