Information about Fort Wayne Community Schools is now available whenever and wherever parents and students want with the new FWCS student-developed mobile app for iPhones, iPads, Androids and other mobile devices.

The free app is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play by searching for Fort Wayne Community Schools. Once downloaded, users can access calendars, lunch menus, Pinnacle, FWCS’ social media outlets, school supply lists, textbooks and more. The app also allows users to receive important notices, such as weather delays and cancellations or emergency notifications, send messages to FWCS and pay for school meals and textbooks.

The app was developed byBlackhawk Middle School student Chance McKibben, who is entering eighth grade in just a few weeks and is the owner of Apple App Factory, a mobile app development company.

Chance began developing mobile apps when his brother, who is a professional photographer, wanted an app to be able to show clients proofs on the go. Chance quickly realized there were other organizations, including FWCS, that could use his technology.

"I thought FWCS needed an app so that school information could be right in your hand," he said. "People always have their cell phones with them. If you are shopping for school supplies and forget your list - the list is right there on your phone. If you wonder what´s for lunch - the lunch schedule is on your phone.

"This offers a whole new level of connection between parents, students and the District," he said.

Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson said Chance exemplifies the opportunities students in Fort Wayne Community Schools have in exploring their passions and potential career paths.

"What Chance has accomplished is amazing," Dr. Robinson said. "He is well on his way to having a successful career in technology, and we plan to provide support and opportunities to him and all the students in FWCS every step of the way."
